This Movember, Let’s Grow More Than Moustaches — Let’s Grow Opportunity
At Red Ember Recruitment, we believe transformation is not just about ticking boxes; it’s about creating meaningful, lasting change. This Movember, we reaffirm our commitment to mental health, disability inclusion, and upskilling, fully aligned with South Africa’s evolving BEE and Employment Equity (EE) landscape for 2025–2030.
Why Movember Matters
Movember is a global movement that shines a spotlight on men’s health, particularly mental health. At Red Ember, we recognise that challenges such as depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions are not merely “employee engagement issues”; they are disabilities.
Acknowledging mental health as a disability is about affirming the dignity and potential of every individual, and taking concrete action to support them.
Mental Health as Disability: A Paradigm Shift
South African regulatory frameworks define disability to include mental and intellectual impairments. This recognition is more than legal compliance; it’s a shift in perspective.
When mental health challenges significantly affect someone’s ability to work or progress in their career, they should be addressed with the same seriousness as physical disabilities.
Viewing mental health through this lens opens opportunities to integrate support, BEE-aligned upskilling, and meaningful employment strategies.
Red Ember’s Approach to Inclusion and Upskilling
Our strategies align with the 2025–2030 BEE and EE priorities in several key ways:
Meeting the 3% Disability Target
Updated Employment Equity Regulations mandate that 3% of a company’s workforce be persons with disabilities. Red Ember partners with employers to build talent pipelines that include men with mental health conditions, ensuring they are not only employed but also supported and empowered.
Skills Development Investment
We help companies develop training and learnership programmes specifically for persons with disabilities, including those with mental health challenges. By investing 0.3% of payroll in training Black employees with disabilities, businesses can secure 4 points on the BEE Skills Development scorecard.
Tax-Efficient Learning
Through accredited training and learnerships, employers can access tax incentives under Section 12H of the Income Tax Act. Disabled learners receive enhanced annual and completion allowances, making the investment in talent both impactful and cost-effective.
Sustainable Careers, Not Just Jobs
We don’t just place people; we build career pathways. By upskilling men with disabilities into higher-skilled roles, we help companies achieve long-term EE targets while empowering individuals with stability, growth, and dignity.
